Abstract
:
Some of the major objectives of any undergraduate denial curriculum are to provide the students with basic and clinical knowledge necessary for general dental practice and to lay die foundation for future academic and oostgraduate training in any of the dental specialities. Criticai evaluation of dental school curriculum all over the world have been undertaken in the past few decades on che relevance of the denial curriculum co the needs of the society and '-he future academic pursuit of the graduates. In some instances, it has been shown chat the traditional method of speciality based method do not prepare graduates either professionally or administratively for general denial practice. One method of providing such training is through an integrated dental training program in which total patient care is the focus. This report is on the course design and our experience on the Comprehensive Care Course (CCC) at the Faculty of Dentistry, King Abduiaziz University, Jeddah. Some of the cases treated by the students during the course would also be presented. Our observations are that the students are better prepared for their internship and general dental practice. Their ability to prepare for and present academic and clinical materials to audiences is also improved. We, therefore, conclude that the programme is a useful method for achieving the overall goal of the undergraduate dental curriculum.
