Abstract
:
Gastric ulceration is a widely distributed disease. One of its major causes is the chronic use of anti-inflammatory medications, commonly referred to as NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). This group of drugs has wide range of effects as gastrointestinal ulceration, perforation and bleeding. Although the conventional drugs used in the treatment of gastric ulcer, most of these drugs contribute various undesirable side effects and drug interactions. Therefore the use of natural drugs is being perused. In this research Aloe vera will be used to investigate its protective and therapeutic effect on the induced gastric ulcer by of NSAID. In this study, the animals will classify to the following groups: Group I: control group. Group II: The positive control taking the vehicle. Group III: the group will be administered by aloe vera for 2 weeks then acute gastric ulceration will be induced by diclofenac sodium. Group IV: The induction of acute gastric ulcer will be followed by its change into chronic unhealed ulceration by using indomethacin for 4 weeks. Group V: in this group the induced ulcer group will be treated with aloe vera for 4 weeks. Group VI: in this group the induced ulcer group will be treated with cimetidine (H2 antagonist) for the same period as a reference for comparing its effects on gastric mucosa with that of Aloe. In all groups parts of the stomach will be studied grossly and microscopically (light and electron). Immunostaining for detecting proliferating cells nuclear antigen and factors stimulating angiogenesis will also be done. Blood samples will be taken to determine gastrin level, prostaglandin-E2, TNF- and IL-10
